We're having a Swedish moment. It is stunning Alicia Vikander
If you don't know Alicia Vikander — the 26 year old Swedish actress and former ballerina — you will very soon. Vikander stars in eight notable films this year, including playing the female lead in Guy Ritchie's big budget remake of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. set for release in Singapore next month.
Set in the 1960's (like the TV series from which it originates), Vikander looks impeccable in the era's mod and A-line shaped splendour styled by Joanna Johnston. Oh, and she stars alongside a not too shabby Henry Cavill as well (who, in our opinion, looks way better in a suit than in red and blue spandex).
Vikander started her acting career in Swedish short films and TV shows before getting her first big international break in the 2012 adaptation of Anna Karenina, as well as the Danish-language film A Royal Affair which was also released that same year. But, for us it was her beguiling turn as the doe-eyed humanoid robot, Ava, in Alex Garland's directorial debut Ex Machina, that left us in no doubt of her rising star and It-girl status.
If there's anyone who knows how to see into the future it's designer Nicolas Ghesquière — his Instagram feed is our crystal ball — who cast Vikander as one of a handful of women for his Louis Vuitton Fall 2015 ad campaign shot by Juergen Teller and Bruce Webster. Thanks to that partnership, we've seen Vikander wearing the best from the French maison at pretty much every important Hollywood event since; adding her to our style watch list as well.
Vikander seems to be making all the right moves. Did we mention she's dating the dreamy thespian, Michael Fassbender? We can't keep our eyes off her whether she's on the screen or on the red carpet.
