Manolo Blahnik Retrospective in the Hermitage

The State Hermitage has prepared a big surprise for all fans of fashion, beautiful shoes, and Carrie Bradshaw fans of style, of course. Next spring, the museum will open a large-scale retrospective of the Spanish master of shoes by Manolo Blahnik. The exhibition will include more than two hundred pairs of shoes and three dozen sketches for them – all of them will be divided into six sections.

First, "Gala" will show the most expensive works of the designer, and it means that here we are waiting for the incredible shapes and gems, including Marie Antoinette shoes by Blahnik for Sofia Coppola's film. As part of the exhibition called "The Heart» (Core), collected shoes, Blahnik who has devoted himself to important personalities – Anna Piaggi, Rihanna, Cecil Beaton, Brigitte Bardot, Alexander the Great. In each pair – stories and images that were born under the influence of books, movies and a personal acquaintance.

About the designer's workshop and his favorite fabrics tell section "Materials". In the "Geographic influence" show shoes, which Blahnik inspired by traveling around the world. For example, here you can see boots Retiro – impression of Russia.

For part of the "Nature" curators selected the shoes, which can be traced passion for Manolo Blahnik in flora and fauna. Such shoes are decorated with flowers, palms, cacti, strawberry, corals, rocks and sea waves. The last section is devoted to the search for inspiration in architecture and art. Arts, literature, cinema – in shoe pairs Blahnik discern the motives of Francisco Goya, Picasso, Matisse, Rothko, Mondrian and Calder.

The exhibition will open on April 28 in the Main Staff of the Hermitage and will run until 23 July.
